Whitemoose River

About this Canoe Route

Whitemoose River

The Whitemoose River canoe route is one of the lesser traveled canoe trips in the Nistowiak Falls/Lac La Ronge area. That’s not because it’s a bad trip, it’s actually the opposite of that. It’s one of the top 5 week-long canoe trips available in Northern Saskatchewan. The Whitemoose River offers some of the best remote fishing experiences in all of Northern Saskatchewan. Spending some time putting your line in the water is almost always guaranteed to catch you a fish or two for supper.

On your fourth/fifth day of this canoe trip you can stop in at breathtaking Nistowiak Falls and take in the beauty of one of Saskatchewan’s largest natural waterfalls. Spend the day visiting the area and watch the pelicans at the outflow to Nistowiak Lake as they feast on the walleye and pike in the area.

Before you end your trip you can stop just north of Stanley Rapids and observe the ancient aboriginal rock painting, and even visit the historic Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The oldest church in western Canada. Finish up your trip in the community of Stanley Mission and have Montreal River Outpost shuttle you back to your vehicles that can be kept in our secured compound in La Ronge.

This trip can be paddled anytime of year but is best done in the spring or at times of high water if you would like a chance of running the rapids on the Whitemoose.
