Wapiskau River

About this Canoe Route

Wapiskau River

While the middle portion of this great trip is undoubtedly its highlight, the first and last portions add the variety needed to keep things fresh. Montreal River Outpost provides shuttle service for your put-in at Brabant Lake as well as your take-out in Southend.

After your put-in at Brabant Lake, explore its many bays. Cast a line or two to catch some fish to fry around your wilderness campsite fire.

The middle portion is a stretch of wonder! Paddle a bit. Find the portage right next to the waterfall. Portage an extremely short distance in full view of the waterfall. Take some pictures. Repeat. What a northern Saskatchewan treasure this is!

The last portion on the Reindeer River and heading into Southend has winding portions with great chances to see wildlife. Devil Rapids can usually be lined on river left, though portaging is also an option. There is a mandatory portage around Whitesand Dam. The paddle into Southend is absolutely magical, a picturesque end to a picturesque trip!
