About this Canoe Route

Nipekamew Sand Cliffs

The portage to get to the starting point of this short canoe route is fairly well-groomed as it's a popular hiking destination for those looking to view the Nipekamew Sand Cliffs. Keep in mind that the path may be full of water at times, so prepare to get your feet wet!

This short canoe trip down the Nipekamew River takes you from the viewing area of the Nipekamew Sand Cliffs down to the Highway 165 East bridge. For those who aren't interesting in paddling against a moving current, you can portage through the hiking trail to the viewing area of the Nipekamew Sand Cliffs. Paddle downstream to the bridge - then walk or shuttle back up to the parking lot to get to your vehicle.

An interesting option is to start your trip at the bridge, paddle against the current up to the Sand Cliffs, and then breeze your way back down the current to your vehicle.

Note: Local residents & visitors enjoy the Nipekamew Sand Cliffs by floating lazingly down the river, so watch out for happy people on inflatable toys!
