About this Canoe Route

McLennan Lake to Churchill River-Stewart River Route

From your put-in at Bear's Camp at McLennan Lake to your take-out at Missinipe, you will get to explore an array of scenery. In addition to canoe rentals for this trip, Montreal River Outpost provides shuttle service.

The first part of the trip -McLennan Lake to the Stewart River- and the last part of the trip -French & Otter Lake to Missinipe- consist of small to medium-sized lakes in beautiful Canadian Shield country.

The second part of the trip -the Stewart River- descends into a narrow gorge that has a plethora of portages for which lining or running the rapids are not safe options. There is a beautiful waterfall at the end of this section of the trip.

The third part of the trip is the twists and turns of a marshy area. There are some portages in this section and lining or running may be options, depending on the water level.

Bear Lake and its high cliffs gives you an option for rock climbing or spelunking. Adventure at its finest!
