For the beginning wilderness paddler, the Lynx Lake-Sim-Lynx Lake loop is a safe area to get experience. The lakes are small and the surrounding land has a higher elevation. Portages are varied in length and characteristics, mimicking what you might find on a longer canoe trip. Several options for routes offers you a taste for looking at a map and making the decision that is right for your party of paddlers.


Montreal River Outpost offers shuttle service and canoe rentals for this Canadian Shield experience a short distance north of the town of La Ronge.


For those who prefer fishing, spring will having you catching fish almost everywhere. Mekawap Lake is highlight of this trip, overflowing with stocked rainbow trout. This is a great loop that will take you lake hopping from one beautiful small, protected lake to the next.  There are some very nice campsites, a great family trip for those who don't mind to portage.
