Geikie River

The option for the fly-in for this trip is Big Sandy Lake. If you want, you can fly into Highrock Lake and add 35km and one portage to your experience.

For the intermediate whitewater paddler, this challenging river changes its character with its water level. If water level is low, you will be dodging rocks or not be able to run them due to its shallow condition. Sometimes walking the canoe downstream is the best option. If water level is high, large waves and huge holes can pose dangers. There are long stretches of rapids on this roaring river.

When you want to find a campsite, eskers that the Geikie River flows through provide excellent options with jack pine forests and light green reindeer moss on the ground.

Your take-out at the Geikie Bridge on Highway 905 will come too soon for your liking. This is northern Saskatchewan whitewater wilderness canoeing at its best!
