French Ducker Route

About this Canoe Route

French Ducker Route

Explore the mighty Churchill River and its environs on the French Ducker Route. Put-in/Take-out options are Missinipe or French Lake. Montreal River Outpost provides shuttle service for this trip.

This is a great place to introduce people to wilderness canoeing. French & Ducker are not large, and most of Otter Lake is replete with islands. The open water between Grandmother's Bay and Missinipe is an excellent training ground for bigger water, as boat traffic is steady.

French Lake has five bays to explore. A narrow channel connects French Lake to Ducker Lake. South of Ducker are the Rattler Creek rock paintings. The central part of Otter Lake is a navigator's dream. Campsites on islands are well maintained. If you have time, make sure to explore North Falls, Robertson Falls, and Twin Falls which connect Mountain Lake to Otter Lake. This trip is a northern Saskatchewan staple.
