If you’ve ever dreamed of a wilderness canoe trip but weren’t sure where to start, this is the perfect introduction. The Path to Nistowiak Falls is a relaxed, fully guided adventure through one of the most iconic stretches of the Churchill River — a place where culture, history, and wild beauty come together in unforgettable ways.
Your adventure begins with a comfortable night at Paddlers Lodge in Missinipe, where you’ll settle in, share a meal, and meet your trip leaders and fellow paddlers. From there, you’ll head to Stanley Mission, where the waterway becomes your path through time and story.
Over four days, you’ll paddle across shimmering lakes and ancient waterways framed by the granite cliffs and evergreens of the Precambrian Shield. You’ll visit Stanley Mission’s Holy Trinity Church, Saskatchewan’s oldest building, and gaze upon centuries-old pictographs that speak of the region’s Indigenous heritage. The route winds through Mountain, Drope, and Nistowiak Lakes, culminating at Nistowiak Falls, the powerful 15-metre cascade where you will experience one of the most breathtaking sights in Saskatchewan.
Days are easygoing and unhurried, with plenty of time for swimming, photography, and lakeside coffee breaks. Evenings bring hearty, fireside meals prepared by your trip leaders, laughter under the northern sky, and the peace that comes from being fully immersed in the moment. With everything provided — from equipment to fresh trail meals — all you need to bring is your curiosity and sense of wonder.
