What to do in Missinipe
It is a question we are often asked, "What is there to do in Missinipe?" You are staying in Churchill River Canoe Outfitters' or Thompsons Camps' cabins or in the Campground. You've gone fishing 2 days in a row and now you are wondering: "What else is there to do?" Well, if you know where to look, there is plenty! Here is a list of some of the things available, and where to look for these events:
- Hang out on the beach.
- There are a number of walking trails across the road from Missinipe. Ask at the CRCO office about trail details. You can even hire a guide from CRCO for a few hours to take you on an interpetive walk along one of the trails. There is plenty to see and hear about along the way.
- Go berry picking. At the right time of year there are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pin cherries, high bush cranberries and low bush cranberries.
- Hire a guide to take you to the ancient native rock paintings on Otter Lake.
- Hire a guide to take you to the three waterfalls at the other end of Otter Lake.
- Hire a canoe guide/instructor to take you whitewater canoeing upstream from Devil Lake. Churchill River Canoe Outfitters has certified guides and instructors.
- Go on a jet boat ride from Osprey Wings.
- Go for a meal or just coffee at Thompson's Camps.
- Walk around Missinipe and look at the various gardens.
- Go shopping at the Birch Bark Gallery while you chat with Celine.
- Rent a canoe from CRCO take it up to Devil Lake and tour the waterfalls and rapids that flow into Devil Lake.
- Rent a touring kayak from CRCO and paddle around Walker Bay.
- Check out the huge TV screen at the Ottering Hole downstairs at Thompson's Camps.
- Check out Missinipe's massive library in the Town Hall.
