Who we are

skrivermap.gif (4K)

Our Location:

Missinipe - a Rocky Cree word, first name of the Churchill River, meaning "Big Water"

Saskatchewan - from the Plains Cree word meaning "Land of the Swift Flowing Waters"

Don't be fooled by our box number! We live and work on the Churchill River in Missinipe,Saskatchewan Canada, a hamlet on the section of the Churchill known as Otter Lake. We are 80 km north of La Ronge (the nearest post office!) on Highway #102, 6 km before the Otter Rapids Bridge.

Horizons Unlimited and Churchill River Canoe Outfitters are under the direction of Ric Driediger. Ric has made wilderness adventure leadership his profession since 1973. Working with Ric are a group of fun-loving, interesting, and friendly staff.

A Word from Ric:

I do this for my love of wilderness and canoeing. That attitude affects everything we do here. I want you to feel the office is a great place to just walk in, get a coffee and talk: about the trip you just finished, water levels, the weather, or that portage through the muskeg into Trout Lake.

I've been travelling this area, guiding and exploring since 1973 . My knowledge of the many routes in Northern Saskatchewan is extensive. I can introduce you to the lesser-known rivers, or help you chose the river or trip that is right for you.

Why Two Names

A frequently asked question is: "Why do you have two names?" I will explain this. In 1979, I started a company called Horizons Unlimited Wilderness Services Inc. This company ran canoe trips under the name, Horizons Unlimited Wilderness Tours. Then in 1986 Horizons Unlimited Wilderness Services bought Churchill River Canoe Outfitters Inc. And in 1988 Horizons Unlimited Wilderness Services started manufacturing tents and fireboxes. What has come about is that the parent company, Horizons Unlimited Wilderness Services Inc. owns and operates a number of related businesses, one of which is Churchill River Canoe Outfitters Inc. Thus the two names.

Our Office

Our office in Missinipe is the resource centre for canoeists and wilderness adventurers in northern Saskatchewan.

Stop by if you're in Missinipe (turn right at the General Store and look for our sign) and have a cup of coffee. We would enjoy meeting you.

But since you can't all do that, browse through our online information, look at our picture gallery (coming soon), and drop us a line. . .
